Entering Samples, Laboratory Data, and Remarks

Select the "Samples and Remarks" tab and click on the desired row to display the sample data entry screen.

The only required information for a sample is the top depth.

Sample Information

Top (feet)
The top of the sample, entered in feet below ground surface.
Length (inches)
The length of the sample.
Sample ID
The Sample ID (optional) will be printed in the Sample ID column.
Blow Counts
The recorded blow counts, if available, will be printed in the Blow Counts column.
Consistency
The recorded consistency will be printed in the Consistency column on the log.

Sampler Type

You can either use the pulldown menu to select the sampler type, or type the sampler type directly into the box.  BorinGS comes with many standard sampler types, but additional types may be defined as discussed in the Editing Samplers section.

Advanced Sample Positioning

Normally the sampler's graphic symbol is displayed across the full width of the Sampler Type column.  Occasionally, however, two samples overlap - such as when a bulk sample is taken around a driven sample.  In this case, we usually want one sampler symbol to be printed on the left half of the column and the other to be printed on the right.

Whichever sample should be on the left should have the "left" radiobutton selected, and the sample on the right should have the "right" radiobutton selected.

If you want the text associated with a sample (such as the label and laboratory data) shifted up or down to prevent overwriting the data from another sample, you may enter that offset amount (in log units - feet, not inches) in the "Vert Lbl Offset" field.  A value of "-2" would shift the text up 2 feet on the log.

Remarks and Other Tests

Text entered in this field will be printed in the Remarks column.  The font and text style may be modified with the tags described in the Markup Tags section.

Laboratory Information

The laboratory fields are defined in the template and will be printed in the corresponding columns, if selected for printing in the template.  Enter any appropriate data for the sample in these fields.
